KER2: Twinning Methodology and Key Lessons Learned from the Twin Synergies Project

28. nov. 2025

The Twin Synergies project has released its second Key Exploitable Result (KER2), which presents a practical Twinning methodology and key lessons learned. The result is designed to strengthen collaboration capacity, support innovation, and align with Europe’s Green and Digital Transition.

The second Key Exploitable Result (KER2) of the Twin Synergies project, “Twinning Methodology and Key Lessons Learned from the Twin Synergies Project,” focuses on the practical implementation of Twinning activities and the insights gained throughout the project.

KER2 is developed primarily to support:

  • academic actors (TG1)

  • business support organisations and innovation & technology transfer intermediaries (TG3, TG4)

By providing concrete methodologies, examples, and reflections, KER2 helps these target groups strengthen their collaboration capacity and increase their innovation potential.

Importantly, KER2 integrates key elements of the Green and Digital Transition, ensuring that the approaches and recommendations are aligned with current European policy priorities. This connection makes the methodology relevant for organisations aiming to position themselves more effectively within evolving European research and innovation agendas.

Beyond research and business-oriented stakeholders, KER2 is also relevant for policymakers (TG2) who are interested in understanding available models and approaches for interregional and international collaboration. The described Twinning methodology demonstrates how partners can collaborate across borders, exchange knowledge, and co-develop capacities in a structured and efficient manner.

By sharing these findings openly, the Twin Synergies project contributes to:

  • broader knowledge transfer between regions and organisations

  • capacity building in research, innovation, and support structures

  • more effective participation in European research and innovation ecosystems

KER2 thus serves as a practical resource for all actors looking to design, implement, or improve Twinning activities, and to anchor them in the wider context of the Green and Digital Transition.

If you are an academic institution, business support organisation, innovation intermediary or policymaker interested in Twinning approaches and international collaboration, KER2 offers concrete guidance and inspiration.

Stay tuned for upcoming results from the Twin Synergies project, which will further support interregional cooperation and innovation capacity building.
